This architectural landmark in The Dominion features extensive floor-to-ceiling glass exposure along its north-facing perimeter. During typical San Antonio "Cold Snaps," the home experienced massive heat loss through radiant transfer, causing significant interior discomfort and a "Cold Wall" effect in the main living wing.
James Johnson was commissioned to engineer a technical interior specification that would preserve the thermal integrity of the home without compromising its modern, open-concept aesthetic.
The Challenge: The primary requirement was extreme R-value performance across large spans of glass where traditional window treatments would fail to provide a meaningful seal.
The Solution: We specified automated double-cell honeycomb systems utilizing specialized insulating textiles. We integrated high-torque Somfy® motorization to allow the client to seal the home's thermal envelope at sunset via a single command.
The Result: Post-installation monitoring during the peak freeze cycle showed a 32% reduction in HVAC furnace runtime. The interior ambient temperature maintained a perfect 72 degrees, completely eliminating the previous draft issues.
